India, officially the Republic of India is a country in South Asia, which  is the seventh-largest country by area and the second-most populous country and democracy (with over 1.2 billion people). India is surrounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.

10. A floating post office


          India is one of the Biggest postal network countries in the world with over 1, 55,015 post offices. A single post office serves to an average population of 7,175 people. The floating post office is located on the Dal Lake, Srinagar, was inaugurated in August 2011.

9. Shampooing is an Indian concept


       Shampoo was first invented in India, not the commercial liquid, but the method that can be done by use of herbs. The word 'shampoo' itself has been derived from the Sanskrit word "champu", which means massaging.

8. Science day in Switzerland is dedicated to Ex-Indian President, APJ Abdul Kalam


        In 2006, the father of India's missile programme had visited Switzerland andUpon his visit to Switzerland, the country declared May 26th as the Science Day.

7. India is the world's second-largest English-speaking country


        India is the second-largest English-speaking country only to the USA when it comes to speaking English with around 125 million people speaking the language, Which is only 10% of our population.

6. The human calculator


        Shakuntala Devi was given the title "The Human Calculator" when she  the calculated the multiplication of two 13 digit numbers: 7,686,369,774,870 × 2,465,099,745,779 which were picked at random. She answered correctly within 28 seconds.

5. The first rocket in India was transported on a cycle


        The first rocket was so light and small, so it was transported on a bicycle to the Thumba Launching Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

4. Water on the moon was discovered by India


        In September 2009, India's ISRO Chandrayaan- 1 using its Moon Mineralogy Mapper detected water on the moon. Only India is the country who first detect the water on the moon.

3. Bandra Worli Sealink has steel wires equal to the earth's circumference


        A total of 2,57,00,000 man hours for the completion of Bandra-Worli Sealink and also weighs nearly equal to 50,000 African elephants. A true engineering and architectural marvel.

2. Kumbh Mela gathering visible from space


      In 2001 Kumbh Mela, nearly 75 million pilgrims are gathered and this was the largest gathering of people in the world. The crazy thing here is the crowd were visible from space.
